Chavonnes Battery 6 cannon salute

What a perfect evening. The V&A waterfront was bustling with excitement in the run up to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration event.

To mark this special occasion, the Chavonnes Battery fired 6 cannons across the harbour aiming at a beacon that had been lit as the signal to start firing.

Before the firing commenced the gunners were busy preparing the equipment, checking their  charges and answering many questions from interested public.

The guns were manned by the Cannon Association of South Africa – their web site gives a lot of information about the cannons.

The museum’s website is – it is worth visiting them at the V&A Waterfront as they have many interesting historical displays.

Credit goes to Dale Dodgen and her team at the Museum, and the gunners of CAOSA for a fantastic show.
